Analysis of Risk Factors and Relevant Indicators to Optimize the Execution of Electric Substation Projects

Abstract

Engineering project management plays a crucial role in the electricity sector, being essential for the modernization and expansion of the energy infrastructure. This article addresses the need to characterize the risk factors that affect the management and execution of electrical substation projects in the national and international context. The objective of this research was to identify risk factors and measurable indicators to mitigate the problems inherent in electrical substation projects. The methodology employed consisted of the identification of risk factors through the expert judgment tool, followed by the selection of indicators to control and monitor these risks in the design and assembly stages. In addition, useful tools for project management were evaluated, highlighting Trello and the Tracking Dashboard. The research highlighted the implementation of these tools through a pilot project that demonstrated significant improvements in organization, supervision, and execution times. However, areas for improvement, unconsidered risk factors, and shortcomings in staff training were identified. The results obtained highlighted the importance of the team's experience and training in this type of projects, as well as the need to implement project management tools that allow monitoring delivery times accurately. These results support the inclusion of agile methodologies in projects with defined scopes. Finally, it is concluded that there are risk factors that can be mitigated by including aspects of agile methodologies and specific indicators, such as execution time, number of revisions, and assembly time, as the most notable within projects with defined scopes, especially in stages such as design and assembly.
