Building a Comprehensive Perspective on Ethics in the Context of Technological Determinism
Abstract
This article analyzes the interaction between technology and society, particularly through the framework of technological determinism, and how this relationship has shaped human environments from prehistory to the present day. Technology is presented not merely as a tool but also as an active agent that both affects and redefines social dynamics while being influenced by human values and decisions. Against this backdrop, this analysis underscores the need for a robust ethical framework in technology—one that ensures advances serve human welfare and promote social justice. Developed in response to the potential negative impacts of technological progress, this applied ethics addresses the complex and nuanced dimensions of moral decision-making informed by human rationality. Moreover, the findings highlight the shared responsibility of engineers, industries, and society in guiding technological development toward sustainability, thereby fostering a balanced relationship between human values and technological progress.
