Editorial Workflow

The Trilogía Ciencia Tecnología Sociedad journal follows a thorough review process to ensure the transparency and quality of its publications. Adhering to each of the stages outlined below is essential for successfully completing the process and obtaining approval for publication.

SUBMISSION

Papers are submitted by the corresponding author via https://trilogia.itm.edu.co. Once the submission is complete, our system assigns a numerical code that identifies the paper throughout the process. Authors can monitor the status of their submission by logging into the system.

The submission guidelines are available at: https://revistas.itm.edu.co/index.php/trilogia/guia_autor?time=1740087476

REVIEW

This process consists of three stages:

Pre-review. Initially, the editor-in-chief or the editorial team assesses the paper’s relevance to the journal’s thematic areas, as stipulated in the editorial policy. If the paper is deemed relevant, compliance with submission requirements and format guidelines, as outlined in the Guide to preparing a paper, is verified.

In addition, to ensure strict adherence to the journal’s ethics and good practice policies, all papers undergo a similarity check. If potential or clear violations of the codes of ethics are identified, the procedures outlined in the COPE guidelines are followed to address suspected misconduct.

Once this stage is complete, authors are informed of any updates and decisions regarding their paper, which may include:

  1. Rejection for failing to meet the requirements.
  2. Request for revisions to meet the requirements before proceeding.
  3. Approval to proceed with the editorial process.

The estimated timeframe for this initial stage is two to five days.

Editorial review. For submissions to the ongoing call, the paper is assigned to either the editor-in-chief or a member of the Editorial Committee based on the subject matter of the text. For specialized calls, the paper is assigned to guest editors. Reviewers are expected to provide a critical and constructive assessment of the content of the manuscript considering the journal’s focus and scope. Upon completion of this review, the editor decides whether to accept or reject the paper, and this decision is promptly communicated to all authors listed in the submission.

Peer review. Once the paper has been satisfactorily reviewed, it is assigned to academic peers who are experts in the relevant field. They provide feedback on the academic and scientific quality of the paper; the rigor of its theoretical and methodological approaches; its contributions, innovations, or advancements in the field of knowledge; and the relevance of the references cited.

Each paper must be evaluated by at least two reviewers, who have up to twenty calendar days to provide their assessment. This period may be extended according to the reviewers’ availability. The potential outcomes of this process are as follows:

  • The paper can be published as submitted.
  • The paper can be published with minor revisions.
  • The paper can be published with major revisions.
  • The paper cannot be published for the reasons outlined in the review.

For more information, please read our peer review policy.

COPYEDITING

After final acceptance, the manuscript undergoes orthographic, semantic, and syntactic review. Additionally, citations and references are revised to ensure compliance with the latest edition of the international APA standards and guidelines. Proof of these corrections are sent to the authors for prompt approval. If any further editing or clarifications are needed, they are also addressed at this stage.

PRODUCTION

After completing the above stages, the paper is sent for layout. The final PDF version is sent to the authors for review and approval. Along with this communication, authors are required to submit a duly signed consent for publication.

Notes:

  1. Papers approved for publication will be available free of charge in electronic format under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license.
  2. The timeframes for each stage are contingent upon the journal’s editorial workflow. If any changes to the established timeframe occur, the authors will be notified and provided with a detailed explanation.
  3. Any accepted paper will be published in the next issue, provided it is approved before the editorial deadline.
